Under 14 Major Division 2010/11

Moone Celtic 3 - 3 Newbridge Town B, October 9th

This was a superbly entertaining game played in an excellent manner by both sides. The fact that there wasn't a bad foul or tackle all day made for a great spectacle of football. Despite some below par team performances recently Moone were clearly well up for this tie against the well respected Newbridge side. Moone came out of the blocks strongly and their midfield were linking up well from the off. Not only this but their back line was being well marshalled by Aidan Jones and keeper Dylan Moore. Strong defensive play by firstly Owen Leigh and then Owen Coyne led to Keith Wright being put through on goal one on one with the Newbridge keeper in the 5th minute. Wright got to the ball firstly and showed good composure to pass the ball into the bottom left hand corner to give Moone the lead. Some good build up play on the left wing in the 9th minute led to Glenn Holmes winning his side a free out wide. Dead ball expert Luke Thornton struck the resulting free kick which deceived the Newbridge keeper and looped into the roof of the net. Newbridge replied in the 13th minute when a well struck free kick by Tom Aspell proved too difficult for Moore to hold on to. Moore's parry fell to the unmarked Ciaran Maher who tapped home the rebound to bring his side back into the tie. In the 22nd minute Moone retrieved their two goal advantage when an Aidan Jones free kick fell to Keith Wright on the edge of the box. Wright instinctively struck the shot and inch-perfectly chipped the Newbridge keeper. Moone went in at half time 3-1 up. The second half saw Newbridge make some positional switches and tactical changes, which certainly had the desired effect. Newbridge's passing in midfield led to Christopher Ward finding some space 25 yards from goal. Ward's shot had such power and accuracy that it rocketed to the top right hand corner of the net. This goal was a pleasure to witness. Newbridge got back on level terms in the 50th minute when Tom Aspell's free kick bounced awkwardly in front of Moore. Moore's parry fell to Dylan Burke who followed up the initial shot and his header found the net. Moone had the better of the closing stages territory wise and had their set piece play been better then they may have got the next decisive goal. However it was not to be. Best for Moone in an all round impressive team performance were James Tyrrell, Alistair Jackson, Owen Coyne and man of the match Owen Leigh. Best for Newbridge were the very solid Tom Aspell at centre back and Alex Maguire on the left of midfield.

Moone Celtic 2 - 3 Naas United, October 2nd

Naas made a remarkable comeback in this game to gain full points in this intriguing game in Fortfield Park, Moone. Having been two goals down at half time one might have thought that Naas were out of the running. However through great grit and determination their superb second half performance produced three goals to punish Moone. There was little between both sides in the opening exchanges. Moone put some passing moves together and Keith Wright in particular was causing problems for the Naas defence through making clever runs. One of Wrights runs into space on the left wing left him with time to cross following Daniel Casey's pass out wide. Wrights cross was pin point and the inrushing James Tyrrell was clinical with his header to the roof of the net in the 18th minute. Again there was little to choose between the sides however almost out of nothing Keith Wright picked up the ball in the centre of the park about 25 yards from goal. Wright turned shapely and instinctively volleyed to the net over the stranded Naas keeper to put Moone two up. It remained this way at half time. Naas refused to lie down and threatened Moone's goal for the majority of the second period. A great volley by Thomas Carlisle in the 39th minute which went narrowly over the bar was a warning to Moone. It came as no great surprise then when a series of corners that Moone struggled to cope with led to Naas getting a goal back in the 42th minute. Gary Cully's dangerous inswinging corner was difficult for the Dylan Moore, Moone's keeper to deal with. While Moore did manage to get a hand to the corner kick to keep it out he could only direct it towards his own man on the front post. The ball rebounded over the goalline despite the despering dive of Moore to scramble to keep it out. Glenn Holmes of Moone had a great chance in the 47th minute to put his side 2 goals ahead again however he did not connect well with the shot and the Naas keeper saved comfortably. This proved costly as another corner by Gary Cully led to the equaliser for Naas in 54th minute. Somehow despite appearing tightly marked Thomas Carlisle managed to get space at the near post in the 6yard box to poke the ball home. With only 2 minutes remaining in the game Naas got the goal their second half endeavours deserved. They out fought Moone in the midfield sector and pushed the Moone defence back. Their initial efforts on goal were all blocked down before the ball fell to the feet of Nathan Aylesbury who coolly placed his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net, much to the joy of the Naas players and coaches. Best for Naas were Jamie Dunne and Dan McCabe in defence with assistance from Deno Fennessy up front and Neil Shannon who really turned things around when he was introduced. While Moone were served by Aidan Jones, Glenn Holmes, Alistair Jackson and Luke Thornton.

Moone Celtic 0 - 10 Newbridge Town, September 25th

Not only was Newbridge Town's performance here good enough to ease past Moone, it may also suggest them being capable of going quiet a distance in this prestigious competition. Newbridge Town's vast array of talent throughout their side was a joy to watch from start to finish with superb passing to feet and exemplary movement off the ball. For their part Moone did persevere throughout the tie as much as they possibly could in this exceptional challenge. Very much to their credit the old cliche of 'working right to the end' was very evident here. Regrettably for them however some uncharacteristic and indeed unforced errors in defence in the early stages lead to giving themselves an ultimately insurmountable climb. It is therefore concerning what the scoreline could have been if they had not competed even when only pride was at stake. Perhaps the main area where Moone were outshone by Newbridge more than any other and which they may try to incorporate more into their own game in the future was in creative, intelligent build up play. Aswell as exceptional link up play, particularly worthy of special mention goes to man of the match performance from Conor Delaney. Conor was outstanding for his team and helped himself to no fewer than 5 goals. It seemed that he has mastered the art of making perfectly timed late runs into the box and finishing off with accurate one touch shooting. Others whom got on the scoresheet were Evan Herd (2), Niall Crowe, Kieran Morris and Cian 'Chilli' Byrne when introduced from the bench. A side with players of Chilli's calibre waiting in the wings will take some beating. The bulk of these goals were the result of crisp, astute passing moves. Others to contribute immensely to this all round excellent team performance were Con Kavanagh, Jamie Harte and the excellent Aaron Fettorie at right full. On this showing Newbridge will take some beating and will undoubtedly represent the KDUL very well. Moone will be pleased not to have to play teams this strong each week. However even with things not going their way players such as Glenn Holmes, Aidan Jones, Luke Thornton and Dylan Moore can be assured that they gave of their all.

Moone Celtic 1 - 1 Mill Celtic, September 11th

This was a very entertaining, hard fought game and what better way could Moone's U14's start out in their new home grounds, at Fortfield Park, than with a local derby. The first half was a tight affair with little to choose between the two sides in the opening stages. As the half wore on Moone's keeper Dylan Moore was the busier of the two and he appeared to deal comfortably with all that the Mill forward line threw at him. With Mill gradually getting the upper hand in midfield they were awarded a penalty in the 28th minute. Adam Meenehan who was having a fine game in centre midfield for Mill stepped up to take the penalty. He struck it well and to his left hand side. Moore was equal to the spot kick and did exceptionally well to parry the save. However the ball fell once again to Meenehan who showed good composure to knock the rebound to the net before the unlucky Moore could get back to his feet fully. The half ended one nil to Mill and this was justified as they had out performed Moone to this point. The second half was again closely contested as Moone came out determined to get back on terms with Mill. This was never going to be easy as Paddy Dunne of Mill at centre half was dominating his area of the field extremely well. Moone brought in some subs as the half wore on to shake things up a little. Jakob Kozel, fresh on the pitch struck a great shot which whistled just over the bar. Mill's subs also contributed immensely to the game and Peter Carroll caused problems for Moone and at least twice almost created the clinching goal that Mill desired. However as Moore continued to somehow keep Mill out Moone always had a chance to equalise. Moone threw caution to the wind in the closing stages and this finally led to their best spell of the game. With only injury time remaining in the game, a free kick was awarded to Moone close to the left hand touch line mid way inside the Mill half. Luke Thornton stood over the dead ball as he is somewhat Moone's dead ball specialist. Not usually for Thornton he ever so sweetly struck the free kick and it angled beautifully into the top corner of the side netting to the delight of the home side. This was a great end for Moone in their opening game in their new home. Other's to perform well for Mill other than the aforementioned Meenehan, Dunne and Carroll were Owen O' Neill, Daniel Mackey and Gary Lambe. Best for Moone were Aidan Jones & Alistair Jackson at centre back, James Tyrell and Daniel Casey in midfield and captain Keith Wright up front.

Under 13 Premier Division 2009/10

Moone Celtic FC 1 - 0 Arlington AFC, January 23rd

This was a very enjoyable game to watch once the dense fog had cleared enough for the game to start. It was a close game throughout and it never looked as though it was going to be a high scoring affair as defences dominated. Both sides traded the early shares of possession and territory. However as the half wore on Moone came slightly more to the forefront, with particular joy coming down the left side. On this wing good interplay between Shaun Corcoran, Glenn Holmes and Jakob Kozel was a regular feature of the half. One such combination move lead to a series of corners which Luke Thornton develivered expertly. It was a case of third time lucky for Thornton whose third centre was taken under control by striker Keith Wright. Wright wasted no time at all in swiveling to his left and confidently striking low and hard, close to the body of keeper Patrick O' Sullivan. The half ended with Moone one goal to the good.
The second half saw Arlington up their game and forcing Moone backwards territory wise. Stephen Lyons, as he is well capable of, caused difficulty down the right hand side and took careful watching. In the 48th minute Lyons was put through on goal and his powerful strike from the edge of the area was extremely well dealt with by Liam Goldrick as he parried away to safety. In a game of few chances the Moone backline of Mark Glynn, Owen Coyne and Luke Thornton stood firm in front of all that Arlington put their way. In the closing stages Arlington's immence Ryan Hazil long range looping shot cannonned back off the crossbar. Only a last ditch tackle by Owen Leigh prevented the rebound being dispatched to the net by the incoming Arlington striker Mark Lawler. The game ended with the echo of the rattling Moone crossbar in the players ears.
Best for Arlington were Mark Lawler, Ryan Hazil, Stephen Lyons and Patrick O' Sullivan. While best for Moone on the day were captain Daniel Casey, Chris Heaslip, Cathal Daly and Aidan Jones.

Moone Celtic 0 - 1 Kilcock Celtic, November 28th

Not many goals on the day but many excellent performances on both sides. As the score suggests there was little between these teams throughout the game. Kilcock started the game brightly and pressed hard for the opening goal. Liam Goldrick in the Moone had to be quick off his line in the opening stages to smother the ball at the feet of Kilcock striker Curtis Walsh. Goldrick went on to make a number of difficult saves look relatively comfortable in the remainder of this game. Moone Celtic's team ethic and disciplined shape allowed them to gradually get a foothold in this game. This, combined with a willingness to pass the ball when the opportunity presented itself gave them some chances on goal themselves. One such move was carved down the left with good link up play between the impressive Daniel Casey and ever lively winger Shaun Corcoran. The ball was feed to striker Keith Wright whose rocket shot hit the target dead on, however the Kilcock keeper was equal to it. The second half continued to be an intriguing battle with both teams giving of their all. Half chances were evenly shared at both ends however no real clear cut chances were created. That was until the 48th minute when a ball was played through to Curtis Walsh who took his chance expertly by lobbing the ball into the Moone net. Moone pressed hard for an equaliser and Aidan Jones, Glenn Holmes and Keith Wright again all were unlucky to see their respective efforts on goal saved or blocked away to safety. Moone and Kilcock both had late penalty appeals waved away by the experienced referee J.A Kelly. Kilcock held out for victory and can be proud of the way the produced this excellent away result.  On the day Kilcock were best served by the central defensive partnership of Cormac Byrne and Luke Jordan, as well as Graham Byrne, Darren Acton and Cian Murphy. Moone had particularly strong performers in Alistair Jackson, Owen Coyne, Luke Thornton and Sean Gahan. They and all there teammates may feel their team performance was deserving of a more even share of the spoils.

Moone Celtic 1 - 5 Athy Town, November 7th

Athy Town showed championship form in this game coming from a goal down to stomp home to victory. Despite the score line, for their part Moone won't be too displeased by their own performance either. Moone competed gallantly against the might of this Athy side in the opening stages. Keith Wright lead the Moone forward line expertly and was unlucky to see Tadhg Foley in the Athy goal expertly save two shots destined for the top left hand corner. Moone were rewarded for their heartened display when Luke Thornton's lovely in swinging corner allowed Glenn Holmes the opportunity to side volley the ball into the net from 4 yards at the back post on 7 mins.  Moone would not need to have been told that Athy were going to rally after this set back. Athy pressed hard for an equaliser and on 20mins they got their reward when Stephen May cooly volleyed high into the net. Some hesitation in the back line and a sticky pitch caused havoc for the Moone backline as Dylan Preston put Athy a goal up after being one on one with Mark Glynn the Moone keeper. Athy completed their impressive turn around before half time when Darren Lawler also volleyed to the Moone net on 28mins. Moone redoubled their efforts for the second half but could do nothing as Athy’s all round quality continued to pose them problems. Coady Mulhall unleased a fine strike in the 54th min to add to the teams tally. Micheal Kelly then produced the shot of the game however Moone’s substitute keeper Dylan Moore was equal to it as he got a lightning fast hand to it to palm it up and over the crossbar. Athy completed the scoring when Stephen May got his second from close range following a cross in the 59th min. Best for Athy were their centre back partnership of Niall Foley and John Moran and their keeper Tadhg Foley. All credit goes to the Moone team throughout this challenging tie however Owen Coyne, Adam Stephenson and Daniel Casey particularly shone on the day

Moone Celtic 2 - 0 Clane United, October 10th

A very spirited team performance made life difficult for the skillful attacking Clane side in Belan Avenue on Saturday last. Clane came out of the traps much the quicker and had almost total territory dominance throughout the opening stages. A curling free kick by Luca Lehane tested the Moone crossbar and rebounded away to safety much to Moone's relief. Rarely did Moone get the opportunity to bare down on the Clane goal, however the counter attack appeared a dangerous weapon for Moone. This proved to be the case when a long clearance forward by Luke Thornton in the 12th minute caused problems for the Clane backline. Glenn Holmes was the willing runner who challenged the Clane keeper to this hopeful ball. Holmes challenge broke the ball down to Keith Wight who had his initial header palmed well off the line by the keeper scrambling back into position. When the ball this time rebounded to Wright he calmly settled on the ball before firing past the remaining Clane defenders and into the net, very much against the run of play. The second half pattern mirrored that of the first with Clane playing the better football. Moone's shape, discipline and team ethic always gave them a chance however. So try as Clane might to break down the Moone defence it started to appear as though it wouldn't be their day. Then in the 43th minute a clever ball was played through the Clane centre halves by James Tyrell into the path of the inrushing Keith Wright. Wright showed great balance to cooly round the advancing Clane keeper and make no mistake as he fired to the unguarded net. This goal sealed the victory for Moone who were well served by Aidan Jones, Liam Goldrick and Owen Leigh in defence and Daniel Casey and Shaun Corcoran in midfield. Best for a Clane side who will be aware that their style of play deserved better were Ronan Pearson in defence and Dylan Callan on the left of midfield.

Moone Celtic  0  -  6  Kildare Town. October 3rd

Kildare showed their quality in this game in Belan on Saturday last and proved that they can be a match for any team in this premier division. Moone started the better team and their quick movement and passing caused some difficulties for their clearly bigger and stronger opponents particularly down the left  wing of Chris Heaslip and Liam Goldrick. However the game was turned on it's head when a diagonal ball over the top put Aaron Purcell through to give Kildare their first score of the day. Despite this set back Moone battled hard and pinned Kildare in their own half for some time. Glen Holmes and Daniel Casey spread the ball well with every opportunity , however Kildare's defensive line lead by Jamie Flynn stood up to the test. A break away goal for Kildare following some pressure at the other end saw Kyle Leavy put Kildare two up by 28 minutes gone. Moone were stunned when a screamer of a shot by Evan Flynn a short time later put the visitors into a commanding lead at half time. Kildare's superior size and and stature continued to prove the difference between these two sides in the second half. Evan Flynn produced a lovely chipped finish in the 36th minute. Matthew Kelly scored another stunning goal in the 48th minute to add to the visitors tally. Moone continued to battle on to no avail and a penalty 4 minutes from the end saw Evan Flynn complete the hat-trick his performance deserved. Best for Moone on the day were Dylan Moore, Owen Coyne and Cathal Daly.

Moone Celtic 0 - 6 Newbridge Town, February 14th

Newbridge Town showed their class in this cup tie played in Belan Avenue and on this showing they will take some beating in the remainder of this competition. Moone will be unhappy with the final score line but not so with the overall skill level, commitment and application that they themselves showed. Newbridge Town were forced to work hard for each of their goals. The first of their goals came from the boot of Alan Dignam who popped up to poke home at the back post in the 14th minute after a nice cross from the right wing. Town were awarded a penalty shortly afterwards when James Tyrrell tangled legs with Kieran Morris. Morris himself made no mistake with the spot kick shooting cleanly and high into the top left. The thirty yard strike from Jamie Harte in the 20th minute was undoubtedly the goal of the game. With only one thing on his mind Harte connected perfectly with a ball which broke in the midfield and the ball sailed beautifully into the top corner giving Mark Glynn no chance whatsoever.

Moone came out in the second half fully determined to reduce the arrears somewhat at least. Try as they might, the Town defense stood firm at all times and this allowed Evan Herd to score another cracker for his team when he shot perfectly into the roof of the net. Moone battled hard even after this latest setback and James Tyrrell, Glenn Holmes and Daniel Casey typified this. Moone’s best chance came when Luke Thornton’s pinpoint free kick picked out Liam Goldrick rising high at the back post however his header was narrowly off target with ten minutes remaining. Town added more goals in the 59th minute and deep in injury time when both Jamie Smith and Sean Healy scored. At the heart of all things good in this superb Town display was Reis Foley, Brian O’ Donnell and the outstanding man of the match Cian ‘Chilli’ Byrne. Others to perform well for Moone were Paddy Galloway, Shaun Corcoran and Owen Leigh.

Monastervin 4 - 0 Moone Celtic, January 17th

Moone could have no complaints on the day here where an outstanding performance from the Monastervin central midfielder saw him score a stunning hatrick. Despite the best efforts of Moone's battling midfield trio of captain Daniel Casey, Aidan Jones and James Tyrell this player proved too hard to match at critical moments. Moone went one down after a somewhat sluggish start in the 15th minute against the wind. Had Moone managed to hold out until half time with just this deficit things might have been different however on the stroke of half time it was their no.6 who again found the net.
Into the second half and following better teamwork and communication Moone's performance improved. Keith Wright almost got on the end of substitute Chris Heaslip's cross at the back post. However the hatrick was complete in the 46th minute and this game was then effectively over as a contest. Moone continued to put their best efforts into the game but to no avail against this superior side on the day. Monastervin added a fourth in the closing stages, shooting high into the top corner giving Mark Glynn no chance in the Moone goal. Best for Moone on a difficult day were keeper Mark Gynn, captain Daniel Casey, Peter McEnroe and Kieran Flynn.

Moone Celtic 2 - 3 Edenderry Town, November 29th

Any of the brave souls who stayed on to take in this game on Saturday last in Belan Avenue will be glad they did. The game was a joy to watch as these two fine sides displayed their excellent individual and collective skills on a pitch more suited to skating. The conditions meant that defences had to take even extra caution than usual when making normally elementary clearences. However this only served to add to the spectacle.
On one such slight defensive lapse in the Moone rearguard Edenderry seized their chance and went one up when Taigh Kane drilled home on 8mins. Moone managed to weather this early storm and with Adam Stephenson producing a fine display at the back and Keith Wright leading their line well up front they clawed their way back into the game by the half time whistle albeit still one down.
The second half saw both sides battle out for the next decisive score and when Edenderry scored through the ever lively and threatening Adam Mahon one would have assumed that they would have all but rapped up the points. However this was not to be the case as the introduction of Chris Heaslip and Alistair Jackson gave Moone a new edge. On the 45 min after some neat play Aidan Jones threaded a perfect through ball to Wright who cooly scooped the ball over the advancing Edenderry keeper and into the net.
Moone seemed to have a renewed vigour and now went in search of the equaliser which arrived with 7 mins to play when Luke Thortnton and Shaun Corcoran combined on the left to cross for the fresh legs of Heaslip to smash home. Where the next goal would come from was now anyones guess as the game flowed from end to end. In the closing stages Edenderry were unlucky not to score it as a brilliant save by the feet of Mark Glynn kept Moone in it after an ominous looking one on one situation. Despite their best efforts, Edenderrys class at this level when they most needed it, proved to be Moone's downfall. Alex Kenny rose highest in the box to loop the winning goal into the Moone net despite the best efforts of captain Daniel Casey on the goal line.
Moone can feel proud to have matched this divisions current champions and continue their impressive run of being a reasonable match for all the big guns thus far. Best for the winners on the day were Wolftone Byrne, Mark Abbot and Adam Mahon. While for Moone Owen Leigh, James Tyrrell and Jakob Kozel stood out.

Moone Celtic 2 - 2 Arlington AFC, November 22nd

This was a close game throughout with never more than the minimum score between these two sides eager to climb towards the top of the table. Moone started strongly and played some nice football as they pressed to produce the opening goal. It was also clear early on that the ever lively Stephen Lyons from Arlington was going to take a lot of close watching if Moone were not going to concede. However it was Moone who got the start they wanted when a nice throughball from Glenn Holmes allowed Keith Wright the chance to score on his full debut for Moone. Wright made no mistake despite the best efforts of Patrick O' Sullivan in the Arlington goal. Arlington came close themselves on a few occasions and Lyons was very unlucky with a free kick that shaved the Moone crossbar beyond keeper Mark Glynn reach. Despite this Lyons made no mistake a short time later when he drilled home an expertly taken free kick into the top left hand corner to level the game on 21 mins. Moone rallied back and Jakob Kozel got his first goal for Moone when his left foot strike was stroked home just prior to the half time whistle.
The Arlington teamtalk certainly did the trick at half time as Moone found it hard to get on the ball and play in the second half. Arlington fought even harder for every ball, closing down space very well and attacking strongly when the chance presented. On one of these attacks they were rewarded when Moone Celtic captain Daniel Casey was adjudged to have handballed inside the area. Despite protestations from the entire Moone side Stephen Lyons stepped up and again made no mistake in levelling for Arlington. Moone had a few close chances in the remaining stages and will wonder how one goalmouth scramble in particular managed to stay out. In the end both sides had to settle for the draw.
Best for Arlington were Cian Corcoran at right back, Graham Weldon in midfield and the outstanding Patrick O' Sullivan in goal. Best for Moone were Owen Leigh, Aidan Jones and Adam Stephenson.

U12 Norton Cup

Moone Celtic 0-1 Rangers

Moone put every ounce of effort they had into this game and can feel unlucky that at the end of the day it just wasn’t to be them marching on to the last 64 in the All-Ireland Cup. Moone seem to relish the big games like this and matched the Terenure side for football for the vast majority of the game and outfought them in terms of commitment to the cause. However a very sprightly start from Rangers proved to be Moone’s undoing. Rangers free flowing football caused Moone’s attacking formation problems from the first whistle. While Moone came to terms with Rangers superb technique and passing, Rangers had gone one goal up on 7mins with a great strike from the edge of the box which sailed high into the net. Some tactical adjusting slowly saw Moone grind their way into the game with Glenn Holmes, Luke Thornton and Daniel Casey in midfield leading by example. As the half wore on Moone’s grip on the game was now tightening as they pressed hard for an equalizer. Into the second half and while Moone pressed hard they were somewhat vulnerable to a swift Rangers counter-attack. However with the rearguard of Galloway, Stephenson and Jackson in perfect harmony Moone stood firm throughout. The introduction of Evan Stephenson added even more intensity to Moone’s attacking unit where Shaun Corcoran, Jakub Kozel and Aidan Jones already looked menacing. Moone managed to produce some shots on target through Jones and Holmes however the equalizer that looked possible right up to the final whistle never came. Best for Moone on the day were Mark Glynn in goal as ever, Chris Heaslip and inspirational captain Daniel Casey. Moone will have learned a lot through their Norton cup exploits this year and can feel proud to have matched each of their tough opponents especially in terms of quality passing football.

U12 Norton Cup, 18th October

Esker Celtic 1 - 1 Moone Celtic

Moone won 4 - 5 on pens (sudden death)

This was a superb display by Moone on Sunday away in Lucan last not only up against a good footballing side but also themselves down a significant number of their regular starters. Moone started brightly and Daniel Casey imposed himself on the game from the start. With Evan Stephenson's jinky skills and dribbling down the left it looked as though Moone were clearly a match for their opponents. However as is often the case in football the opening goal can sometimes come against the run of play and this was the case here when Esker went one up on 10mins with a strike from the edge of the area into the bottom corner. Moone who always compete well did not let this affect their game too much and were rewarded prior to the half time break when Chris Heaslip added to his impressive tally for the season with a high well struck shot into the roof of the net. The second half brought more honest endeavour and workrate from sides who both upped their game to try secure a spot in the next round. However the windy conditions on the day did not allow for as much passing football to be played as both sides would have wished. Thus the game moved into 10mins each way extra time. Again with tiring legs now a factor both teams could not be separated as defences continued to stay on top of their game with Paddy Galloway, Adam Stephenson and Owen Leigh in the Moone rearguard outstanding. It all game down to penalties. Dillon Moore in the Moone goal saved the third Esker spot kick allowing Moone’s fifth taker a chance to secure victory. However as this kick in turn was saved, Adam Stephenson’s sudden death strike gave Moone a further chance to advance. Dillon Moore pulled off a brilliant final save of the day to play a vital role in his teams victory. Others to perform well were Jakob Kozel, Liam Goldrick and Aidan Jones.
